Whether it is a pregnancy, a divorce, a chronic disease … all these serious events can have far-reaching consequences for one’s sex life. Professionals should be aware of this fact.
My field of interest and expertise is the sexual development of children and adults. I carry out literature studies and execute large scale population research. I am project manager of “Sexual Health in the Netherlands”, one of the largest projects of the Research Department of Rutgers.
As senior researcher I published several literature studies, such as “Sex when growing up” (2003), and “Of all ages” (2014). “Sex under 25”, a large scale population study into the sexual health of young people aged 12 - 15 years, was published in 2005 and again in 2012. I also study young people’s experiences with sex on the Internet.
Researching for my PhD I wrote my thesis about the role parents play in their children’s sexual development. I often submit articles for publication in (inter)national scientific journals and magazines. I am a member of the International Academy of Sex Research and sit on the board of the Netherlands Association of Sexology. Frequently, I give lectures at seminars and congresses.
