The global strategic partnership Right Here Right Now (RHRN) is getting ready for the 50th session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD50)! On 3-7 April 2017, the Member States of the United Nations will meet in New York for the annual CPD. This year’s theme ‘Changing Age Structures and Sustainable Development’ offers a great opportunity to zoom in on the demographic change that countries are experiencing, and what this means for existing policies and governments’ responsibilities.
Meaningful youth participation in full steam
The #Youth and #SRHR movements are making inroads. And, we are happy to be part of that.
- The RHRN consortium submitted a written statement, which can be found on the official CPD website.
- Rutgers and the SRHR Youth Ambassador Sanne Thijssen will be part of the Netherlands government delegation, and other RHRN consortium members will be participating too: dance4life, CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality, LACWHN and the Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women.
- RHRN platform representatives from Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal will be participating, and some will also be part of their government delegations!
- RHRN will deliver a joint oral statement in plenary.
We will go home victorious if the final #CPD50 Resolution incorporates a stronger language of human rights, gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, comprehensive sexuality education, and meaningful youth participation. And, if discussions on demographic dividend lead to an unwavering commitment to invest in young people and their SRHR.
Remote engagement is possible; stay tuned!
