Dutch Minister Ploumen for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation shows leadership

Rutgers is pleased about Minister Ploumen’s initiative to counter the effects of the Global Gag Rule. She shows that in the best of Dutch tradition, we would like the Netherlands to take the lead in fighting for sexual and reproductive health and rights. President Trump’s decision to stop donors financing all charities and funds that may only touch on abortion, will affect millions of women and girls. Ploumen’s proposal is therefore very much needed, indeed.

It is now up to the minister, to Dutch politicians, to Rutgers, to our international partners and especially to the international community to persevere.

We will have to convince our international partners to contribute to this fund and we will have to remind Ploumen’s successor (after the General Elections of 15 March) of this obligation.

Rutgers and its partners will do their utmost to make this fund into a great success, since the health and freedom of choice of millions of women and girls are at stake.
